Glossary

Repeat Measurements

Architex measures and lists the horizontal and vertical pattern repeats utilizing both imperial and metric systems. Repeat measurements are listed on all memo tags and pages as the fabric comes off the roll. If a pattern has been sampled ‘Railroaded,’ the listed repeat maintains in the off the roll horizontal/vertical measurements. The railroaded indication always states “Railroaded, reverse repeat” as in the case of railroading, the listed horizontal and vertical measurements will be switched.

Random Match

Some patterns may have larger repeats difficult to find and/or do not require that the repeat within the upholstery pattern is matched up. Items marked with ‘Suitable for Random Match’ may be considered ‘solids’ for yardage requirements thereby eliminating the additional yardage needed for a pattern match.

Railroaded

Railroading refers to the way a fabric, usually a pattern, is milled. Normally a bolt of fabric features the top of a pattern going up the roll. However, a railroaded fabric will have the top of the pattern going across the roll. This provides a continuous roll of the pattern, making it possible to upholster a sofa, headboard, cushion or draperies without creating seams or a break in the pattern.
